What this is

Gateway to the Bay is a guide to getting on the water in South East Queensland: the boat ramps, the gateways to the islands, the campsites, the dive sites, the hidden gems and the history under the surface. Moreton Bay and the Gold Coast are covered in depth, and the coverage reaches north along the coast.

Everything comes from one set of records. Each place is a pin on the map and a page on this site, and both are built from the same note, so a fact corrected in one is corrected in the other.

How it is made

Places are visited and checked in person where we can. Every page shows when its facts were last verified, so you can judge how fresh they are. Photos are credited to whoever took them, and the history pages cite their sources.

Some pages are still thin. A ramp with a placeholder description is one we have pinned but not yet written up, and we would rather show the pin than hide the ramp.

The map

The base map is OpenStreetMap; the pins, categories and destinations are ours. The trip planner keeps your saved trips in your own browser and nowhere else, and a shared trip link carries only the ids of the places on it.

Business listings

Free and sponsored business listings are something we plan to offer, but that is down the track rather than right now. If you run a marine business and would like a listing when they open, get in touch through the contact page and we will note your details.

Not for navigation

This is a planning tool. It is not a chart, and it does not replace official charts, tide tables, weather forecasts or Maritime Safety Queensland notices. Conditions, ramps and sandbanks change. The terms of use say this at more length.
